Svyridenko: Sanctions against the Russian shadow fleet should extend to captains and insurers

Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svirydenko has called on international partners to expand sanctions against Russia’s “shadow fleet.”
Russia’s oil and gas revenues fell by 35% in November compared to last year, Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svirydenko said.
This, she said, confirms the effectiveness of the joint sanctions policy, but “the pressure needs to continue to increase.”
“Russia continues to use its shadow fleet to make a profit. Sanctions should be applied not only to the vessels, but also to their captains, insurers, oil refineries and trading companies that help circumvent restrictions,” Svirydenko said.
She also stressed the importance of blocking the supply of components for Russian weapons and strengthening financial control, in particular in the field of cryptocurrency transactions, which the Russian Federation uses to circumvent sanctions.
The Prime Minister also recalled the need for an early decision on the use of frozen Russian assets for the benefit of Ukraine.
“We expect the European Council to make a decision on the “reparation loan” mechanism by the end of December.”
We will remind, the day before, the Sanctions Summit was held in Kyiv, where the fight against the so-called shadow fleet of the Russian Federation and blocking of sanctions circumvention schemes were discussed.
