Ukraine, EU, Romania and Moldova agreed to strengthen logistics coordination on the Danube

During the high-level meeting in the QUAD format in Brussels, the parties discussed the protection of critical infrastructure and the development of alternative routes.

A high-level meeting in the QUAD format was held in Brussels within the framework of the Ukraine-EU initiative “Paths of Solidarity” dedicated to logistics on the Danube, shipping safety and the sustainability of transport infrastructure. This was reported by the Ministry of Development.

The Ukrainian side informed the partners about the consequences of Russian attacks on ports and energy infrastructure, as well as the risks of disruptions in the operation of terminals. In this context, the parties discussed approaches to protecting critical transport infrastructure and increasing the readiness of logistics routes for crisis scenarios.

A separate block considered the issue of energy sustainability of ports. Ukraine emphasized the need for transformers and diesel generators to ensure the uninterrupted operation of maritime and inland waterway transport enterprises.

Following the meeting, the parties agreed to continue joint work on the implementation of the “Danube Action Plan 2.0”. This includes, in particular, improving navigation safety, better coordination between the ports of Ukraine, Romania and Moldova, and prompt response to possible traffic disruptions in the Black Sea-Danube region.

In addition, given the vulnerability of land routes to Danube ports, the participants agreed to expand cooperation to include road and rail transport.

Among the priorities are increasing the throughput capacity of checkpoints, improving control procedures and developing alternative rail routes, in particular through the territory of Moldova.

Ukraine has also previously discussed solutions for the development of logistics on the Danube with the European Commission.
