Four Ukrainian minesweepers currently in Britain may join the demining of the Strait of Hormuz.

This is reported by hromadske with reference to The Times, which, in turn, quotes a source in the Ukrainian defense ministry.

Thus, four Ukrainian ships currently moored in Portsmouth, England, may take part in the British-French mission to demine the Strait of Hormuz after the end of the war in the Middle East.

It is currently known that Ukrainian officers are participating in a multinational military planning summit at the Permanent Joint Headquarters (PJHQ) in Northwood, northwest of London. They have already declared their readiness to help their allies in the Middle East.

“We are ready to offer everything. There are four minesweepers in Portsmouth. They cannot go to Ukraine because, firstly, they will be the number one target, and secondly, because of the Montreux Convention,” the source said.

Currently, the UK has the HMS Shoreham and HMS Grimsby ships, transferred to the Armed Forces of Ukraine from the Royal Navy in 2023, as well as the UNS “Mariupol” (M310) and UNS “Melitopol” (M300) from the Netherlands and Belgium.

In the long term, Ukraine hopes that these minesweepers will help with the demining of the Black Sea after the end of the Russian-Ukrainian war.

Earlier, USM reported that Ukrainian naval drones could join the defense of the Strait of Hormuz.
