Greece investigates Ukrainian Magura naval drone found near Lefkada

Greek authorities have stepped up their investigation after a sea drone with explosives was discovered near the island of Lefkada.
Specialized military units were involved in the work, writes The Guardian.
Recall that the drone was discovered near the island of Lefkada in the Ionian Sea. Later, sappers blew up the device at sea.
Greek Defense Minister Nikos Dendias said that the drone was almost certainly launched “from abroad,” but did not specify which country. According to preliminary information, it is a Ukrainian Magura V5 sea drone.
“We know what it is, and we more or less know what is in it,” Dendias said.
According to media reports, the device could contain about 100 kg of explosives, although the Greek Ministry of Defense has not officially confirmed this.
After the incident, a political discussion has unfolded in the country regarding Greece’s preparedness for new types of threats. The opposition PASOK party accused the government of lack of transparency and insufficient information to the public about the origin and route of the drone.
The drone has now been delivered to a naval base on the Greek mainland. Experts are studying the serial number and GPS system of the device to establish its origin and route.
It will bw recalled, that last week, an unmanned maritime vehicle was discovered near the island of Lefkada in the Ionian Sea. Previously, it did not have explosives, but there were detonators on board.
The device was found by fishermen near Cape Ducato in a coastal cave. According to the publication, the drone’s engine was still running at that time. After that, the fishermen towed the device to the port of Vasiliki, where it was handed over to the Greek Coast Guard.
