Fines of up to 4 thousand euros: Danube port introduces new requirements for vessels

The Romanian port of Tulcea has introduced additional requirements for reporting ship-generated waste after violations were detected during inspections.

This was reported by Avalon Shipping Operations Manager Kateryna Kononenko.

According to her, the authorities of the Romanian port of Tulcea have introduced additional requirements for declaring ship-generated waste after detecting cases of discrepancies between the declared and actual amounts of waste on board ships.

During the registration of ships’ departure from the port of Tulcea, the port administration discovered a number of violations related to the declaration of ship-generated waste. In particular, the actual amount of waste on board in some cases significantly exceeded the amounts specified in the documents submitted before the ship’s arrival at the port.

In this regard, the port authority has tightened control over waste reporting.

From now on, together with the package of documents before the ship’s arrival, it is necessary to submit a PDF copy of the latest ship-generated waste report, as well as indicate the exact amount of waste remaining on board.

“If the declared quantity does not correspond to the actual quantity, the vessel may be fined from 10,000 to 20,000 Romanian lei (approximately 2,000 to 4,000 euros), ”said Kononenko.

It should be noted that the new requirements apply to vessels that undergo registration at the port of Tulcea before going to sea via the Danube shipping route.
