A training exercise on actions in the event of a spill of pollutants was held at the Odesa Port

A practical training exercise was held in the Odesa Sea Port to practice actions in the event of a spill of pollutants in the water area.
The event was organized by the Environmental Safety Department of the Port Administration in accordance with the Plan for Localization and Elimination of Pollutant Spills, the Odesa Port Administration reported.
According to the scenario, while parking near one of the berths of the Practical Harbor, a conditional fuel leak occurred from the tugboat “Truzhenyk”. The crews of the oil spill recovery vessels NMS-505-12, MNMS-51 and the port water area cleaning brigade were promptly involved in the elimination of the consequences.
The training participants practiced the algorithm of actions from the moment of receiving a notification about the spill to carrying out all necessary measures to localize it.
The oil spill recovery vessel crews performed the procedures that are mandatory before starting the collection of pollutants:
• checked the readiness of the baths for receiving the mixture;
• measured the volume of collected cargo water emulsion;
• practiced maintaining supporting documentation and recording the work performed.
Special attention was paid to the actions of the water area cleaning team. During the training, measures to localize conditional pollution were discussed and practiced in accordance with the current Instructions for daily booning and emergency blocking of exits from the Odesa Sea Port area.
It is such measures that allow minimizing the risks of spreading pollutants and ensuring an appropriate level of environmental safety. Such practical training is conducted regularly, because it is the constant improvement of skills and clear interaction of all services that is the key to effective response to possible emergency situations and maintaining the environmental safety of the Odesa Sea Port area.
Earlier, USM reported that the USPA and Babcock International discussed cooperation in the field of port protection.
