Romania completes modernization of Luminița port on the Danube-Black Sea Canal

The Romanian Shipping Canals Administration has completed the modernization and expansion of the capacities of the Luminița port on the Danube-Black Sea canal.

This was reported by CTnews.

The cost of the project was 120 million lei. The financing was provided by the EU and the Romanian state budget.

A new port platform, berths, as well as infrastructure for water and electricity supply were equipped in the port. In the future, the administration expects to handle about 300 thousand tons of cargo per year.

In parallel, ACN completed the reconstruction of the movable lock gate near Cernavoda, which has not been modernized since 1983.

The cost of these works was 50 million lei. During the reconstruction, the old equipment was practically completely replaced.

The gate should maintain a safe water level in the canal, especially during periods of low water levels in the Danube. Previously, due to leaks, there was a risk of water flowing from the canal back into the Danube.

The work was completed in early August, when the water level in the Danube remained particularly low.

USM previously reported that ships will be able to connect to the electricity grid at 10 berths in the port of Constanta.
