South Korea denies fuel supplies to Russia from its ports

South Korean authorities have said that the country has not supplied fuel to Russia on sanctioned tankers from South Korean ports.

According to Reuters, Reuters, on October 7, the administration of South Korean President Lee Jae-myung rejected allegations that Russia imported petroleum products from South Korean ports.

This is a Guardian investigation, which stated that fuel was loaded into seven tankers in South Korean ports, including three vessels under British and European sanctions.

In turn, the Ukrainian Presidential Commissioner for Sanctions Policy Vladyslav Vlasyuk said that such supplies alleviate the consequences of the fuel crisis for Russia, which was caused by Ukrainian drone strikes on refineries.

The South Korean presidential administration said that South Korea has consistently applied sanctions and export controls against Russia in close coordination with the international community since Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine.

Seoul is currently investigating the facts and any export control issues and will take necessary measures if sanctions violations are detected.

As a reminder, the Guardian previously reported that South Korea exported more than 176,000 tons of fuel to Russia during July and August 2026 using sanctioned tankers.
