Navigation on the Danube has become difficult due to low water levels

Navigation on three branches of the Danube remains difficult due to low water levels, with the biggest problems recorded on the Ciliu branch and certain sections of the Sulina.

This was reported by Agerpres with reference to the captain of the Moldova vessel of the Navrom Delta company, Vali Moldovanu, Digi24. writes.

According to the captain, the most difficult situation is observed on the Ciliu branch, which runs along the Romanian-Ukrainian border. There are three or four shoals there that make it difficult for ships to move.

“On the Ciliu, you need to go at low speed so as not to touch the river bottom. Dredging is needed,” Moldovanu noted.

There is also a problematic section on the St. George branch between kilometers 101 and 103.

At the Sulina estuary, the depths remain sufficient, but the shipping lane has narrowed due to low water levels. This makes it more difficult for ships to separate and overtake. In some cases, crews have to stop and wait for a safe opportunity to continue their journey.

The captain of the Moldova said that he had never seen such low water levels in his time on the Danube. In his opinion, the situation may improve after rains in the upper reaches of the Danube.
