Norway has restricted the calls of russian fishing vessels to its ports
The Norwegian government has announced that it will limit the right of russian fishing vessels to enter the country’s ports.
From now on, ships are allowed to enter only three Norwegian ports – Tromsø, Kirkenes and Botsfjord, according to the website of the Norwegian government.
Also, russian vessels entering these three ports will be subject to inspection by the customs service and the police.
“We have been closely monitoring russia’s activities in Norwegian waters and Norwegian ports so that Norway does not become a transit country for the illegal transportation of goods to russia. Now we have information that indicates the need to strengthen control over russian fishing vessels,” said Foreign Minister Anniken Heitfeldt.
Since 1970, Norway and Russia jointly use the waters of the Barents Sea. The ports of Tromsø, Kirkenes and Botsfjord are mostly used by Russian vessels.
