The daily cost of a simple “handysize” with grain in the Bosphorus costs more than $20,000
One day of downtime for a bulk carrier with Ukrainian grain in the Bosphorus costs more than 20,000 dollars.
This was stated by the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Mykola Solskyi at a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine – Ukrinform on January 16. According to him, now ships are waiting for weeks to enter and leave the Bosphorus.
“If we are talking about a simple “handysize”, before the New Year, traders called the price of $20,000 or more simple for a day,” the minister noted.
He emphasized that, accordingly, all funds will be invested in Ukrainian agriculture. As Solsky noted, the number of ships passing through the strait is not enough yet.
“The main issue that Ukraine is trying to solve is control over the Bosphorus, the work of the JCC. Negotiations are not easy. The number of vessels that go to the exit and entrance is clearly insufficient, and this is the thing that greatly hinders the Ukrainian farmer, the Ukrainian trader, and our customers. Because grain is more and more expensive and unpredictable for the countries that trade with us,” the minister said.
