About 14 thousand square meters. km of the water area of Ukraine is polluted by mines
As a result of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, the contamination of land and water areas of Ukraine with explosive objects threatens more than 6 million people.
Approximately 14 thousand square meters. km of water area and 128 thousand sq. km of land of Ukraine contaminated with explosive objects. This was stated by the head of the Main Directorate of Mine Action, Ruslan Beregulya.
This state of affairs is a consequence of the large-scale invasion of Russia. Mine hazards threaten the civilian population, agriculture and industry in the affected regions.
In general, mine pollution negatively affects the lives of more than 6 million Ukrainians.
Despite the complexity of the situation, the help of international partners is crucial.
“Thanks to joint efforts, we will free our land from explosive objects, meter by meter, and create powerful tools for the implementation of humanitarian goals of mine action,” Beregulya concluded.
