Contracts for the construction of stations in “Zmiyinyi” for 69 million were terminated
It was planned to build a base station on Zmiiniyi Island worth over UAH 69 million. However, with the assistance of the prosecutor’s office, the agreement was terminated.
This decision was made after an inspection that revealed that the extension of the contracts is inconsistent with modern realities, the Odesa Regional Prosecutor’s Office reports.
Thus, in 2020–2021, the state-owned enterprise “Maritime Search and Rescue Service” held tenders and concluded agreements with contractors to create a station that was supposed to ensure navigation safety and communication during emergencies. Financing was supposed to be provided from the state budget.
“However, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, Zmiiniyi Island has been included in the list of territories of active hostilities. This made it impossible to carry out the planned work. Despite this, the customer extended the contract term for both 2023 and 2024, which created a risk of unjustified spending of state funds,” the department reported.
The prosecutor’s office noted that spending funds for purposes that do not meet state interests is unjustified given the losses from the Russian Federation’s aggression.
The prosecutor’s office notified the regulatory authorities of the violations identified and noted that if they are not eliminated independently, it will file a lawsuit in court in the interests of the state to terminate the contracts for the purchase of works.
“Due to the response of the prosecutor’s office, the parties eliminated the violations by terminating the above-mentioned contracts,” the report says.
As previously reported by USM, in November, as part of the “GUR-KIT” operation, fighters of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine evacuated cats and kittens from Zmiiniyi Island.
