Development of Danube ports: Kubrakov held a meeting with the President of the EBRD

Minister of Infrastructure Oleksandr Kubrakov held a meeting with the President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Odile Renault-Basso. They discussed the joint implementation of development projects of the Danube ports.

During the meeting, they discussed the implementation of joint restoration projects and opportunities for expanding cooperation. We are talking about the development of the Danube port cluster, the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine reported.

“We started work last year. The international engineering consulting company Royal HaskoningDHV, as part of a joint pilot project of the Ministry and the EBRD, has developed a list of measures to increase the capacity of Danube ports. The measures concern investment, operational and regulatory changes both in Ukraine and in Moldova and Romania,” said Minister of Infrastructure Oleksandr Kubrakov.

According to Kubrakov, the Danube cluster has become a critically important element of the world’s food security in the conditions of limited work of Ukrainian seaports. In particular, due to operational dredging in ports on the Danube during the restoration of their passport characteristics.

“In this way, we are reviving the Bystre estuary channel as an alternative route for Ukrainian agricultural exports. We are already discussing with our partners projects to restore the basic infrastructure: power grid, water supply and drainage, transport infrastructure, housing in the liberated territories.

Currently, a number of joint initiatives with the EBRD are being implemented, in particular the project on the development of road management within the framework of the project “Development of the trans-European transport network. Ukraine – road corridors”.
