Due to the suspencion of ports, Ukraine can export less than half of the planned agricultural products

Due to the closure of the ports of Great Odesa, Ukraine can export only about 29.6 million tons of agricultural products in the 2026/27 marketing year out of the planned 64.4 million tons.

This was reported by the Ministry of Agrarian Policy.

In August, exports may amount to about 1.6 million tons. In the future, the throughput capacity of alternative routes is planned to be increased to a maximum of 2.9 million tons per month.

The ministry noted that because of this, more than half of the planned export harvest may remain in Ukraine.

By November, the deficit in storage capacities may reach 11 million tons, and more than €10.8 billion in products will be blocked in unsold stocks.

Against this background, Ukraine is asking the EU to provide €220 million in grant support to compensate for interest and partially cover bank risks on loans to farmers.

The Ministry of Agrarian Policy estimates that this will allow attracting about €4 billion in loans for the agricultural sector at a rate not exceeding 10% per annum. The proposed mechanism is planned to be worked out through the Ukraine Facility and EU guarantee institutions in the coming weeks.
