Export grain transportation by rail increased by 30%
The volume of grain cargo transportation by rail last year became a record for the last four years, exceeding pre-war indicators.
According to JSC Ukrzaliznytsia, in 2024, 34.1 million tons of grain were transported by rail, which is 30% more than in 2023. This is пише reported by Ukrinform.
This indicator also exceeded the pre-war level of 29.26 million tons in 2021. The share of grain exports by rail increased from 74% in 2023 to 86% in 2024, but has not yet reached the pre-war level of 87%.
The main directions of grain exports by rail in 2024:
• ports of the Odessa region — 82%;
• western border crossings — 14%;
• Danube ports — 4%.
Grain transportation to the ports of the Odessa region increased by 2.2 times due to the stable operation of sea grain exports.
In total, in 2024, Ukrzaliznytsia transported 174.93 million tons of cargo, which is 17.9% more than in 2023.
