Freight rates for grain transportation by coasters to Italy have increased on the Danube

As of mid-April, the situation for shipowners in the Black Sea remains unchanged.
At the same time, rates on nearshore routes in the coaster sector have decreased slightly due to the limited number of cargoes, said Pavlo Lysenko, an analyst at ASAP Agri and freight broker at Atria Brokers.
Transportation of a Panamax consignment of corn from Ukrainian deepwater ports to South China is estimated at $34–35/t, which is $1/t more than a week ago.
In the handy-size segment, the freight of a 30,000-tonne corn consignment from Ukrainian deepwater ports to the east coast of Italy remains stable at $16–17/t.
In the coffer sector, transportation of 6,000 tonnes of corn from Ukrainian Danube ports to the east coast of Italy costs $29–31/t, which is $1/t more than the previous week.
Freight rates for barge transportation remain at a minimum level of €8–9/t for consignments of 1–3 thousand tons of corn from Izmail or Reni to Constanta.
As previously reported by USM, freight rates on short routes in the Black Sea decreased last week due to a shortage of cargo.
