Freight rates for transporting grain from Ukraine continue to rise

This situation on the market is facilitated by the fact that the amount of available tonnage is decreasing in the Black Sea-Mediterranean region.

Grain trade from Ukraine remains active, which causes an increase in freight rates. This was повідомив reported by ASAP Agri analyst, Pavlo Lysenko, representative of Atria Brokers.

Thus, in the Black Sea-Mediterranean region, the volumes of available tonnage for October continue to decrease. This, in turn, creates an acute shortage of ships, especially for spot orders.

In anticipation of further market growth, shipowners are refraining from quickly concluding contracts, forcing charterers to increase rates to secure the required tonnage.

At the same time, freight rates for “handy sizes” transporting corn from deep-sea ports of Ukraine to the east coast of Italy increased by 2 USD/t and now amount to 25-26 USD/t. In the “burners” segment, the price of corn transportation from Ukrainian ports on the Danube to Italy increased by 2 USD/t, reaching the level of 32-34 USD/t.

However, there are no positive changes for barge owners. Rates for the transportation of corn from the ports of Reni or Izmail to Constanta remain at the level of 9-10 EUR/t.

The day before, USM wrote that the insurance of ships to the ports of Ukraine has become more expensive – due to the active attacks of the Russian Federation on port infrastructure.
