Poland wants to extend the embargo on Ukrainian grain until Ukraine joins the EU
In Poland, they propose to extend the ban on the import of Ukrainian agricultural products until the moment of Ukraine’s accession to the EU.
Poland expects the European Commission to extend the restrictions on the import of Ukrainian grain at least until the end of the year, but considers this term too short.
This was stated by Polish Minister of Agriculture Robert Telus, PAP reports.
In his opinion, the ban should apply at least until the agreement on agriculture between the EU and Ukraine — in the context of the latter’s possible accession to the Union.
“Under the current conditions, Ukraine cannot join the European Union, as it would harm Polish agriculture,” says Telus.
He added that it is necessary to develop plans so that Ukraine can send its food further – beyond the borders of the EU.
The minister noted that now Ukraine exports the same amount of grain as before the war, but it remains in Europe and is not transported to Africa and Asia.
Previously, USM reported that Ukraine will submit Poland to arbitration at the World Trade Organization due to the grain embargo, in case of violation of trade law in the interests of “pre-election political populism.” This was announced by the Prime Minister of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal.
