Russians repair ship to evacuate Russian troops from Syria
The Defense Intelligence updated information about the “Sparta” ship’s breakdown – the Russian crew was able to fix the problem and continue sailing through the Strait of Gibraltar.
Recall that earlier, the Defense Intelligence reported that the “Sparta” cargo ship, which Russia sent to remove its weapons and equipment from Syria, broke down off the coast of Portugal – the fuel pipe of the main engine failed.
Later, the information was updated: the Russian crew was able to fix the problem.
The Defense Intelligence reminded, that currently the remnants of the Russian contingent in Syria have completed their withdrawal from remote areas and are located in only two places – at the Khmeimim air base and the naval base in Tartus. Russia has begun to transfer part of its weapons and equipment from the port of Tartus to Libya by sea.
Recently, USM wrote that the European Union will discuss the closure of the Russian fleet base with the new Syrian authorities.
