Tanker with Russian oil got stuck near China due to US sanctions

Three tankers carrying more than 2 million barrels of oil from Russia are unable to enter Chinese ports due to US sanctions.

Among the blocked tankers is the Huihai Pacific, which was due to arrive at the port of Dongjiakou in Shandong province with 770,000 barrels of ESPO oil, Bloomberg reports.

After loading at the Russian port of Kozmino in early January, the ship changed course and is currently in open waters.

Two other vessels, the Mermar and the Olia, are also unable to enter the Chinese ports of Yantai in the Yellow Sea. They are transporting about 1.5 million barrels of Russian oil.

Several tankers and traders that trade ESPO, a popular brand among independent Chinese refineries, have been hit by recent US sanctions.

As a reminder, Chinese ports in Shandong province will ban tankers under US sanctions from entering.

USM previously reported that US sanctions had “cut off” Russian oil supplies to Asia.
