The crew of the cruiser “Admiral Kuznetsov” was turned into a mechanized battalion

The Russians formed a mechanized battalion from the crew of the Admiral Kuznetsov aircraft carrier.

This is evidenced by the messages of OSINT researcher moklasen on the social network X.

The analyst found a message on the Russian social network “Vkontakte” with a request to find men from military unit #78987. Initially, the “Frigate” battalion was located in the Kharkiv region, but then it was transferred to the Pokrovsky direction.

Also in August, there was a report about the disappearance of seaman Oleh Sosedov from the ship’s crew. He went missing on July 23, during the storming of the border village of Sotnytsky Kozachok in Kharkiv Oblast. Sosyedov was also from military unit #78987.

It seems that the Russians formed a mechanized battalion from the ship’s crew so that the sailors would not sit idle. After all, the only Russian aircraft carrier cruiser “Admiral Kuznetsov” has been under repair for several years.

Work began back in 2017, after military operations near the coast of Syria. In 2018, an accident occurred at the shipbuilding plant in Roslyakovo, as a result of which a crane fell on the repaired cruiser. A year later, a large fire broke out on the cruiser, in which two Russians died and at least six were injured.

On December 22, 2022, the cruiser “Admiral Kuznetsov” caught fire for the second time – at the docks of the Zvezdochka plant.

The renovation was planned to be completed by 2024, but it is still ongoing.

USM previously reported that the FSB announced the prevention of a terrorist attack on the Admiral Kuznetsov cruiser. It was allegedly planned by the Ukrainian special services.
