The EU introduces duties on the import of oats from Ukraine

The European Union temporarily imposes tariffs on the import of oats of Ukrainian origin due to Ukraine exceeding the quota.

From June 19, 2024 to June 5, 2025, Ukrainian oats will be imported to the EU within the tariff quota from the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA), Latifundist reports.

The message of the European Commission states that Ukraine has exceeded the established quotas.

The emergency braking of imports is automatically triggered if its volumes, registered between July 1, 2021 and December 31, 2023, reach the average annual import.

The quota for oats is set at the level of 4 thousand tons. Imports from the beginning of 2024 exceed this volume, so MFN tariffs will apply until the end of the year. The DCFTA quota will be available again from January 1, 2025.

In 2022, Ukraine exported more than 7,000 tons of oats to third countries. From July 2023 to May 2024, Ukraine sent 11,100 tons of oats. In addition to the EU, Ukraine exports oats to Switzerland, Turkey, India, Iraq, Libya, Morocco, South Africa and Vietnam.

USM previously reported that the European Union is suspending the import of Russian agricultural products, including oil crops. The size of the duty can be up to 95 euros per ton.
