The European Commission officially banned the import of certain agricultural products from Ukraine
The European Commission has officially announced the introduction of “exceptional and temporary” precautionary measures against imports from Ukraine.
The measures limit the import of certain Ukrainian-made agricultural goods to five EU countries bordering Ukraine, according to the website of the European Commission.
“These measures are necessary given the exceptional circumstances of the severe logistical bottlenecks faced by the five Member States. The measures concern only four agricultural products — wheat, corn, rapeseed and sunflower seeds of Ukrainian origin,” the official statement said.
Thus, the restrictions that came into force on May 2 will last until June 5, 2023. During this period, agricultural products of Ukrainian origin may be released into free circulation in all EU member states, except for Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Slovakia. Goods can continue to circulate in or transit through these five Member States using the common customs transit procedure, or go to a country or territory outside the EU.
In parallel, Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia have committed to cancel their unilateral measures on wheat, corn, rape and sunflower seeds, as well as any other products coming from Ukraine.
