The first modernized UDS vessel is put into operation

The first modernized vessel of the Ukrainian Danube Shipping Company, Kapitan Antypov, is getting ready for work, and is already heading for its first cargo.

“Captain Antypov”, the first modernized vessel of steam shipping, is on its way from Austria to Serbia, where it will take its first cargo, the UDS reported.

According to team members, the vessel has impressive speed and significant fuel economy. The UDS will be able to provide more accurate data after the voyage is over, but the first results already exceed the expectations of the shipping industry.

Meanwhile, work on the modernization of the second vessel of the same type – Fedir Riabinin – continues at the ÖSWAG shipyard. Ukrainian and Austrian specialists work together. The Ukrainian team learns quickly and takes responsibility for an increasing amount of work.

The modernization program does not stop. International partners are convinced of the need to strengthen Ukraine on the Danube. The UDІ also stated that strategically important decisions were made on the Ukrainian side. Thanks to the support of the Ministry of Infrastructure, it became possible to fully complete the first stage of modernization – to replace engines and other equipment on five UDS “Captain Antypov” type river vessels.

Earlier, USM reported that the partners are calling on Ukraine to develop the Danube against the backdrop of threats to the ports of Odesa.

International representatives proposed two key initiatives:

• ensure a stable traffic flow on the Danube;

• develop a non-discriminatory tariff for railway transportation to equalize logistics costs between the ports of Odesa and the Danube.
