The Russians are mining the Black Sea with Ukrainian ammunition captured in Crimea
The Russians are using Ukrainian weapons captured in Crimea to mine the Black Sea.
The invaders are using Ukrainian mine weapons to impede civilian shipping in the Black Sea, Dmytro Pletenchuk, the spokesman for the Russian Navy, told “Suspilne”.
He noted that such actions of the aggressor country contradict the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea and are a violation of the laws and customs of war.
“The Russian Federation is very bothered by the fact that Ukraine is restoring civil shipping and that this new corridor has been created, and that Russia has no official influence on it, and that there were no agreements with the terrorist country. Of course, Russia cannot easily pass by this, because for them this corridor is a geopolitical tool that affects both the internal agenda and the external arena, it is a very important factor for them,” commented the spokesperson of the Navy of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Pletenchuk said that the Russians periodically resort to various provocations in order to hinder the activities of the Ukrainian maritime corridor. In particular, the occupiers launch drifting mines in the Black Sea.
“It is important that they quite often use the mine weapons that they captured in 2014 in the Ukrainian Crimea, which in nomenclature are Ukrainian mine weapons. Russia is ready to resort to any tools and means to achieve at least some victories. Of course, this is the usual blackmail and terrorism on the part of the Russian Federation,” he emphasized.
