UDS announced a new stage of modernization of the steamship “Captain Antypov”

The next stage of the modernization of “Captain Antypov” will soon begin – the installation of new equipment.

Technical manager of the ÖSWAG shipyard Harald Böhm told details about the company’s fleet renewal project, UDS reported.

“Captain Antypov” was built 40 years ago. Since that time, the Danube cargo fleet has not fundamentally changed, because the conditions of operation have not changed – the dimensions of the locks, the depth. Conceptually, the ship is not obsolete, except for the engines and control systems that are now being replaced.

The ship’s hull and propeller complex are in excellent condition. UDS has chosen engines and an exhaust gas treatment system that meet Euro 5. This is an EU requirement for new or modernized vessels. Otherwise, the ship will not be able to operate on the territory of the European Union. In the future, the entire river fleet in the EU should be adapted to Euro 5.

It is possible that after modernization “Captain Antypov” will be able to work on the Rhine as well. It may be necessary to additionally install certain equipment, but in principle there are no obstacles.

Modernization of the ship was started later, because dismantling took a lot of time. But they plan to complete the installation of the equipment within the allotted time. Work on the second vessel can be started in parallel.
