UDS plans to return to cooperation with the metallurgical giant Voestalpine
The management of PJSC “Ukrainian Danube Shipping” is considering the possibility of resuming cooperation with the Austrian metallurgical company Voestalpine.
UDP seeks to restore commercial relations with the metallurgical giant Voestalpine, based in Linz (Austria). Until 2015, the Austrian company was one of the main clients of UDS.
Today, Voestalpine is among the top five European buyers of Ukrainian iron ore raw materials. Every month, Ukraine exports 1.5 million tons of ferrous metals to EU countries, of which Austrian producers account for approximately 15% — 200-250 thousand tons per month.
“It is clear that currently the UDP is forced to work on the short shoulder, delivering grain to Constanta. But strategically, we have to return Voestalpine. This is a stable loading of our fleet for the long term. It is very important that Voestalpine is actively working on the launch of “green steel”. That is, the company, which has subsidiaries around the world, is determined to maintain production in the EU, adapting to new environmental requirements,” the UDS press service said.
