Ukraine exported 630,000 tons of barley to China this summer
From the beginning of June to August 21, grain exports to China reached almost the same volumes as for the entire 2023/24 marketing year.
From the beginning of June to August 21 this year, Ukrainian agricultural producers exported 630,000 tons of barley to China. This was reported by ASAP Agri analysts.
This indicator almost corresponds to all Ukrainian barley exports to China during the entire 2023/24 FY. At that time, the volume of grain shipments to the Asian country amounted to 702,000 tons.
The increase in exports is attributed to the active operation of the Ukrainian maritime corridor, which was not operating in the same period last year.
However, further demand from China for Ukrainian barley may decrease significantly. This is due to the large accumulation of stocks and the expected decrease in feed consumption in the PRC. The August WASDE assumes imports into the country at the level of 10.2 million tons against 14.5 million tons in 2023/24 MR.
At the same time, China may again switch to the purchase of grain of Australian origin. We will remind, in 2023/24 MR, Australia took 35% of Chinese barley imports.
USM recently wrote that export wheat prices on the Chicago Stock Exchange are also actively growing.
