Ukraine will maintain the ban on coal exports, says the Minister of Energy
Ukraine does not plan to resume exports of thermal coal.
“Ukraine will keep the ban on the export of energy coal for the time being to ensure national interests,” Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko said at a press conference.
According to him, the business is interested in export. But, in his opinion, the decision to ban the export of gas and thermal coal, made under martial law in 2022, guaranteed the security of the supply of energy resources on the domestic market.
“The peculiarity of the autumn-winter period that ended was, in particular, that Ukraine went through it without importing coal,” the minister emphasizes.
So, on the eve of the autumn-winter period, Ukraine had more than 2 million tons of coal, at the end of the autumn-winter period, there were about 1.2 million tons, now the amount of coal is about 1.5 million tons.
As previously reported by USM, in 2022 Poland imported 14 million tons of coal.
