Ukrainian ports will be monitored from space
Now Ukrainian ports will be monitored not only by drones, but also from satellites.
Satellites will be connected to monitor the environmental situation in the waters of seaports. Monitoring will be carried out by SE “Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority”.
Recently, the USPA and the National Center for Control and Testing of Space Facilities of the State Space Agency of Ukraine signed an agreement on satellite monitoring services for seaport waters and the provision of satellite imagery data.
The conclusion of the agreement is an important step in the development of USPA environmental management. The innovation will improve the level of environmental protection in the water areas of seaports.
From now on, the USPA will receive extended data from satellites on the pollution of water areas at any distance, even in their most remote parts. For instance:
- photographs of possible pollution of the water area with oil products and/or other harmful substances from vessels and other objects in the port;
- thematic maps;
- informational and analytical reports describing the situation and indicating the area of contamination, date, time, coordinates of the course of the ship (or other object) and other data to identify the polluter in the seaport water area.
