Ukrainian sailors are asked to avoid calls at Russian ports

The MTWTU recommends Ukrainian seafarers to avoid calling at the ports of the Russian Federation in order to ensure their safety.
“We continue to receive reports of cases of “improper treatment” of Ukrainian seafarers visiting the ports of the Russian Federation on board foreign vessels in recent weeks,” the MTWTU notes.

If you know that the vessel you are working on is planning an event in one of the ports of the aggressor country, we recommend that you prevent the event by sending a message to the company with a link to the letter MTWTU 01-0303 OG.

In this document, the Marine Transport Workers’ Trade Union of Ukraine requires shipowners to avoid calling at the ports of the Russian Federation, as this may lead to the detention of Ukrainian sailors based on their personal attitude to the political situation in their homeland.

We urge all seafarers to rely on this letter in case they need to refuse call at the ports of the Russian Federation, and we also ask you to contact the MTWTU for any help and support in connection with the above.
