US court rules that superyacht “Amadea” does not belong to former Rosneft chief

A New York court has refused to recognize Russian businessman Eduard Khudainatov as the owner of the yacht Amadea.

Reuters reports that the judge ruled that the former head of Russia’s state oil and gas company Rosneft cannot claim ownership of the $300 million superyacht that U.S. authorities seized in 2022.

Eduard Khudainatov, who headed Rosneft from 2010 to 2013, had sought to block the seizure by claiming ownership of the yacht in late 2023.

Prosecutors have also called Khudainatov a “front person” for sanctioned Russian billionaire Suleiman Kerimov and said Kerimov’s niece paid a company controlled by Khudainatov €225 million ($243.7 million) in 2021.

Earlier, Khudainatov stated that he allegedly financed the construction of the yacht for $232 million and is its legal owner.

Recall that in October 2023, the New York prosecutor’s office filed a lawsuit to confiscate the 106-meter superyacht “Amadea” worth more than $300 million.

It is also known that US citizens pay $600 thousand per month for the maintenance of the superyacht “Amadea”. As of the end of 2024, these costs have already reached $30 million.
