UZ increased the average daily load of wagons by more than 20%
JSC “Ukrzaliznytsia” increased the average daily load of wagons by more than 20% in April.
In April, “Ukrzaliznytsia” increased the average daily load by 20.6%, compared to April last year, to 360.5 thousand tons, UZ reported.
The April 2023 to March load factor decreased by 6%.
Despite the situational decrease in the volume of transportation compared to March, UZ expects a positive indicator of the growth of freight transportation until last year.
“For our part, we are doing everything to fully restore export railway transportation to European countries and compensate for the volumes lost due to the blocking and uncertainty regarding export and transit cargoes that are going through the EU,” emphasized Yevgeny Lyashchenko, chairman of the board of UZ.
Thus, in April, the average daily load of strategically important cargoes increased: hard coal — by 22% (up to 68.3 thousand tons), oil and petroleum products — by 27% (up to 8.6 thousand tons), ferrous metals — by 25% (up to 19,000 tons), construction cargo more than doubled (up to 32,200 tons).
The average daily load of grain cargoes in April increased by 76% until April 2022, but decreased by 17% until March of this year.
“At the moment, we see the transportation of agricultural cargo as a priority in cargo work, because the new sowing season has already begun. We are working on the renewal of export and transit transportation and ensure uninterrupted work on the internal network,” stressed Vyacheslav Yeromin, a member of the board of the UZ.
We will remind, “Ukrzaliznytsia” at the request of foreign carriers introduced conventional restrictions on the transportation of agricultural cargo in the direction of Poland until the situation is resolved. However, UZ later resumed the transportation of Ukrainian products for export for transit through the territory of Poland, which had been suspended since April 15.
Shipments are permitted for land transit and for transit to the seaports of Gdańsk, Gdynia, Świnoujście and Szczecin. Currently, constant work is underway to restore transit and export by rail through the territory of other European countries.
