The EU and Japan opposed a complete ban on russian exports

The EU and Japan rejected the US proposal to ban almost all exports from russia.

The G7 summit will be held in Hiroshima on May 19. In particular, the meeting will discuss the consequences of russia’s war against Ukraine and the possibility of introducing new sanctions against russian federation. The USA proposed to almost completely ban Russian exports in order to reduce revenues to the Kremlin’s budget.

However, representatives of Japan and EU countries spoke against this proposal. Among the more likely solutions are measures against evasion of already implemented sanctions. They also plan to impose restrictions on intermediaries in financial transactions in russian federation, the Financial Times reports with reference to its own sources.

The G7 countries will continue to reduce imports of russian energy resources and prevent the re-opening of logistics routes lost by the aggressor country. In addition, the G7 leaders plan to introduce a “tracking mechanism” for russian diamonds in order to reduce russia’s income from their export.
