Hungary wants to extend import restrictions until 2024
Hungary has asked the European Union to extend restrictions on the import of Ukrainian agricultural products. It is proposed to extend the ban until the end of 2023.
The State Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture of Hungary, Zholt Feldman, said that the country asked the European Union to extend the restrictions on the import of Ukrainian grain and oil crops. At least until the end of 2023, writes Reuters.
According to him, Budapest has asked Brussels to provide financial support to local farmers.
“This is necessary to facilitate the transportation of grain stocks that are stuck in internal storage until this year’s harvest. We are interested in ensuring that the harvest in Hungary is completed safely and that Hungarian farmers can sell their products,” said Jolt Feldman after the meeting of EU agriculture ministers in Brussels.
We will remind, the European Union can limit agricultural imports of Ukraine to five neighboring countries after the extension of the “economic visa-free regime”. Currently, the EU continues to discuss this topic with five member states affected by restrictions on Ukrainian imports, as well as with Ukraine.
As previously reported by USM, the Minister of Agriculture of Croatia, Maria Vuckovic, believes that Ukrainian farmers should export as much grain as needed.
