Theft in UZ: losses are estimated at more than UAH 700 million

More than 700 million UAH were embezzled at the tenders of “Ukrzaliznytsia”. NABU has about 80 cases.

NABU recognized the systematic nature of embezzlement at Ukrzaliznytsia. In an interview with Ukrinformv, NABU director Semyon Krivonos spoke about the losses and the number of cases.

According to him, the bureau has a whole unit that has been investigating cases related to UZ since 2015. About 80 cases are being investigated in total.

“There is a constant problem with misappropriation of funds specifically for public procurement, there are signs of the creation of back offices that receive kickbacks,” Kryvonos added.

Semyon Krivonos added that eight heads of departments of the carrier company, which deal with procurement, were brought to justice.

“This indicates the need for systemic changes in Ukrzaliznytsia to eliminate the very cause of corruption. To this end, we have provided recommendations to the government, they are still relevant, and we hope that the government will finally correct the situation that has developed in Ukrzaliznytsia with purchases,” concluded the director of NABU.

Earlier, USM reported that NABU and SAP uncovered a bribery scheme by an official of Ukrzaliznytsia for assistance in concluding contracts with “necessary suppliers” for the needs of the railway. For his “services”, he received a new Toyota Camry car for UAH 1.55 million.
