Ukrainian lawyers canceled the arrest of 25 vessels detained by Serbia

Ukrainian lawyers canceled the arrest of 25 vessels — they were arrested by Serbia at the initiative of a company controlled by a Russian concern.

Before the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation into Ukraine, the client had unsettled property relations with a Serbian company that is under the control of a large state-owned Russian oil and gas concern, the Ukrainian law firm Interlegal reported.

Last summer, the Serbian company managed to arrest the client’s entire fleet of 25 vessels.

Almost immediately, Interlegal lawyers canceled the seizure of 23 of the client’s vessels, and the process took about one year to cancel the seizure of the last two vessels. This was due to the peculiarities of the judicial proceedings in Serbia, as well as the obstruction by the opponents with all possible tools.

Eventually, the arrest was overturned. Currently, the vessels are once again participating in the client’s economic activity and transporting goods on the Danube.

Interlegal noted that now, in connection with the war in Ukraine, there are trends to increase the number of commercial vessels on the Danube River (not only on the territory of Ukraine), which leads to an increase in disputed situations, accidents, arrests, etc.
