Protests against Ukrainian grain in Bulgaria are linked to Russian propaganda

The Bulgarian minister said that Russian propaganda fueled farmers’ protests against the import of Ukrainian grain.
“The problem with the import of Ukrainian grain appears again as propaganda on the part of Russia,” said Bulgaria’s Minister of Transport Todor Gvozdeikov, writes Euractiv.
According to him, when imports were allowed in 2022, Bulgarian grain producers made a profit of more than 1.25 billion euros.
“In 2021, the profit was less, but this protest now has a political purpose. They are trying to destabilize Bulgaria’s clear pro-European direction,” the minister noted.
He also emphasized that Bulgaria provides both a corridor of solidarity and a port through which Ukrainian grain can be exported, from which the country will only benefit.
Among the most popular fake news was misinformation that food products from Ukraine are contaminated with heavy metals and even uranium. Bulgarian authorities have carried out numerous inspections of grain and products, but have not found any such problem
