The US State Department believes that in the near future Russia will have less leverage over the export of grain from Ukraine via the Black Sea.
This was stated by James O’Brien, the head of the Department of Sanctions Coordination of the US State Department, writes Reuters.
According to him, more and more ships will be able to leave the ports of Ukraine. At the same time, rising costs may force the Russian Federation to reconsider its rejection of the Black Sea Grain Initiative.
“Ukraine already has several ships that have left the ports and remain in the territorial waters,” noted James O’Brien.
In addition, attacks by the Russian Federation on Ukrainian ships will negatively affect pricing, which will lead to higher tariffs for policyholders. Due to this, expenses on the part of the Russian Federation will increase.
“Over the next few weeks, I think the factors that led Russia to believe that it would benefit from exiting the Grain Agreement will change,” James O’Brien emphasized.
