The Houthi attack on the tanker with rosneft: details have emerged

Details have become known about a ship with Russian oil, which was attacked by the Yemeni Houthis in the Red Sea the day before.

The tanker “Wind” (IMO 9252967) with a deadweight of 105,387 tons carrying a cargo of Russian oil came under fire in the Red Sea on May 20. The detailed route of the ship was published by the head of the Monitoring Group of the Institute of Black Sea Strategic Studies Andriy Klymenko.

On the night of May 8, the ship left Novorossiysk. Initially, the crew indicated the port of destination as Port Said (Egypt). Then, on 13 May, while transiting the Suez Canal, the port of destination was changed to Yanbu, Saudi Arabia, with an expected arrival on 17 May. And later — in the direction of China (China for orders). The oil tanker “Wind” was attacked by the Houthis 98 miles south of Al-Hudaydah (Yemen).

Probably, the Houthis were confused by such a frequent change of destination ports. After all, the militants had previously promised not to attack vessels coming from China and Russia.

Previously, “Wind” transported Russian oil in January, May and November 2023 from Tuapse to Singapore. The tanker“Wind”  belongs to the Longitude Maritime Company from Cyprus. The ship manager is the Greek company Adriatic Tankers Shipping.
