Britain to allocate $286 million to strengthen Ukraine’s Navy

The new military aid package focuses on strengthening Ukraine’s navy.

The UK has announced a new defence package for Ukraine worth $286 million to support the country in its fight against Russian aggression, Reuters reports.

“The brave people of Ukraine continue to defy all expectations with their indomitable spirit,” said British Defence Secretary John Healy. “But they cannot act alone – that is why the UK will strengthen our international leadership towards Ukraine throughout 2025.”

Among the key items included in the package, £92 million will be allocated to strengthening the navy. In particular, Ukraine will receive:

• small boats for rapid response to threats,

• reconnaissance drones for information collection,

• unmanned surface ships,

• unmanned munitions for hitting targets,

• mine-clearing drones for safe passage of ships.

The purpose of this assistance is to strengthen Ukraine’s capabilities in the maritime sphere, especially given the critical situation in the Black Sea.

In addition, the package includes:              

• 68 million pounds for air defense (radars, electronic warfare systems against drones),

• 26 million pounds for support and spare parts for previously transferred systems,

• 39 million pounds for more than 1,000 electronic warfare systems against drones and equipment for protecting the military.

Britain also promised to expand the military training program for Ukrainian defenders.

The day before, USM reported that a French nuclear submarine sank a ship in the Mediterranean Sea as part of exercises.
