The Black Sea freight market froze in anticipation of the new season

Despite the fact that rates remain at a stable level, market participants are hoping for a revival with the start of the new harvest season.

The freight market in the ports of Great Odesa and on the Danube is in a “frozen” state: rates remain without significant fluctuations, and transportation volumes have not yet shown active growth. This is reported by Spike Brokers.

Transportation by “handy sizes” from Chornomorsk to the eastern coast of Spain is offered for $17–19 per ton, and in the direction of Italy — $16–17 per ton.

For “fireships” from Izmail, delivery of cargo to Italy remains at $29–30 per ton, while transportation on short routes, such as Izmail — Romania, costs 8–9 euros per ton.

Market participants note that the main changes are expected closer to the start of the new grain season, when demand for tonnage will increase and additional volumes for shipments will appear. This may give impetus to increasing freight rates and improving fleet utilization.
