Our goal is to restore Ukrainian agriculture, make it innovative, – Koval

The strategy of the Ukrainian agricultural sector focuses on several areas. In particular, it is about attracting investments.

This was announced by the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Vitaliy Koval within the framework of the Conference on the Restoration of Ukraine #URC2025.

“I told you that our goal is not just to restore Ukrainian agriculture, but to make it innovative, energy-efficient and environmentally responsible,” the minister noted.

According to him, the strategy for the development of the sector until 2030 focuses on key areas: demining and returning land to life and attracting investments.

“Demining is our top priority. 1.9 million hectares of potentially contaminated agricultural land are not only economic losses, but also a daily danger for our farmers,” Vitaliy Koval emphasized.

Regarding attracting investments, the agricultural sector is currently the center of Ukraine’s economic reconstruction and already provides almost 60% of Ukrainian exports. International partners were also invited to join investments in processing, logistics and agrotechnology.

“I particularly emphasized the reconstruction of irrigation infrastructure. As a result of the explosion of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station, up to 94% of irrigated land in the Kherson region was dehydrated. And this led to numerous consequences in other regions,” the minister said.

He also thanked the Tony Blair Institute (TBI) for organizing this important conversation and noted that TBI is a reliable partner that provides strategic support to Ukraine. The Institute’s team conducts key research and prepares analytics that help understand the real picture. For example, due to land mining, export losses reach $4.3 billion per year.

“I called on partners to jointly fight disinformation about Ukrainian agriculture. Such cooperation will further help us convey the truth to international partners and attract their support for the transformation of the Ukrainian agricultural sector,” added Vitaliy Koval.
