Germany and France propose EU sanctions against Lukoil

Berlin and Paris insist on including the Russian oil company Lukoil and its trading “subsidiary” Litasco in the 19th package of EU sanctions against Russia.

The proposal was submitted to the European Commission last week. France and Germany demand that companies outside Russia that are involved in exporting Russian oil to the EU, in particular through schemes in Central Asia and cryptocurrency transactions, writes “European Pravda”.

Currently, discussions on the 19th package of sanctions are at an early stage. Decisions require the support of all 27 EU countries. The main obstacle may be the position of Hungary, which has energy ties with Russia.

Earlier, EU foreign policy chief Kaia Kallas stated that the new package of sanctions could include restrictions in the energy sector, finance and secondary sanctions. Meanwhile, the US is calling on European states to stop buying Russian energy resources in order to increase joint pressure on Moscow.

Previously, USM reported that the EU was considering tightening sanctions against the “shadow fleet” and a ban on insuring tankers with Rosneft.
