Ukraine and the EU have begun the final screening in the field of agriculture

Ukraine has begun screening meetings with the European Commission on Chapter 11 “Agriculture and Rural Development”.

This chapter is part of Cluster 5 “Resources, Agriculture and Cohesion Policy” and is the final one in the screening process, the Government reported.

The meetings will last three days — until September 10 — in a hybrid format in Brussels. The Ukrainian delegation is headed by Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Taras Kachka. Representatives of the government, in particular the Ministry of Economy, the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, joined the negotiations.

According to Kachka, agricultural policy is one of the key areas of the negotiations:

“It is obvious to us that agricultural policy is one of the most important in the negotiations. That is why we are paying special attention to this area. Ukrainian agrarian policy has been transforming for many years, updating and modernizing its practices, which allows us to actively approach the EU’s common agricultural policy. For us, this screening session is not the beginning, but the result of many years of cooperation with the European Union. We know our advantages, we know the challenges, and today we have the opportunity to lay the foundation for further integration of the Ukrainian agricultural sector into the EU’s common policy,” he said.

On the first day, the principles of Ukraine’s agrarian policy, farmer support systems and rural development, agricultural sector financing, the Integrated Administration and Control System (IACS), and the Sustainable Farming Data Network (FSDN) were discussed.

Chapter 11 covers a large number of norms, most of which will come into effect in Ukraine immediately after accession to the EU. Their correct application and control are critically important for the functioning of the EU’s Common Agricultural Policy.

Earlier, USM reported that the EU may approve increased quotas for Ukrainian agricultural products in September.
