Ukraine unblocks diesel imports from Giurgiuleşti port

Ukraine has lifted restrictions on diesel fuel imports from the Moldovan port of Giurgiuleşti.

Market participants noted that the restrictions were lifted last Friday, but an active return of supplies has not yet been recorded, writes enkorr.

Traders interviewed by the publication perceive the opening of the port without much optimism. First of all, they perceive it as an additional competitive factor for Ukrainian ports.

“Logistically, it is no better than Ukrainian ports, but sometimes due to different prices it can destabilize the situation a little,” commented one of the publication’s interlocutors.

The port was unblocked against the backdrop of the government’s resumption of work to expand fuel supplies due to the threat of new Russian attacks on energy infrastructure. Last week, three meetings were held under the chairmanship of Deputy Minister of Energy Mykola Kolisnyk on the situation on the fuel market with the development of further steps to increase import and storage opportunities.

In October, the Security Service of Ukraine formed a list of ports that, according to its data, received oil products of Russian origin. Giurgiuleşti was also indicated among these ports – supplies from small ports of the Russian Federation were recorded there. The sanctions affected only diesel fuel, while gasoline imports continued all this time.

According to the A-95 Consulting Group, in 2023, diesel fuel imports from Moldova amounted to 304 thousand tons (about 5% of total imports). After blocking imports from the terminal, supplies decreased sharply – to 9 thousand tons in 2024.

Earlier, USM reported that in the first decade of November, Ukraine unblocked diesel fuel imports from Constanta, but its sales are growing slowly.
