A new case of pollution of the Black Sea coast with fuel oil was recorded in the Odesa region

Pollution with a fuel oil-like substance was again recorded on the coast of Zatoka in the Odesa region.
The State Environmental Inspectorate of the South-Western District reported this on Facebook.
Given the nature of previous similar cases, a possible connection with the consequences of the fuel oil leak from the Russian tankers “Volgoneft-212” and “Volgoneft-239” cannot be ruled out, the department noted.
On November 28, state inspectors, in cooperation with specialists from the Ukrainian Scientific Center for Marine Ecology (UkrNCEM), again discovered the fact of pollution of the Black Sea coast with fuel oil in the territory of the village of Zatoka.
The pollution manifests itself in the form of dark “bleeds” on the sand, while in previous cases the fuel oil was found in the form of dense clots. According to visual signs, the detected substance has a more viscous consistency. The line of pollution of the coast is about one kilometer.
At the same time, no visual signs of pollution of the sea area were found – the pollution is localized only on the sandy part of the coast.
The inspection took samples of sea water and pollutants for testing for the content of petroleum products.
Earlier, USM reported that fuel oil from Russian tankers was again discovered off the coast of the Odesa region.
