Russia halts grain exports to Iran due to war

Russian grain exports to Iran have been halted by the war in the Middle East.

Meanwhile, Iran, the third-largest buyer of grain from Russia, has already purchased up to 95% of its expected wheat for the season, the Times of Israel reports.

Sources in Russian export companies confirmed that they have halted deliveries from the Black and Caspian Seas to Iran. However, exporters are still trying to fulfill existing contracts.

The key markets for Russian grain are countries in the Middle East — Israel, Turkey, Egypt, Iran, and Saudi Arabia. Exports of Russian grain to other buyers have so far continued without interruption.

According to analysts at the grain rail carrier Rusagrotrans, Iran imported almost 6 million tons of grain from Russia in July-February, compared to 3 million tons in the same period a year earlier.

USM previously reported that supertanker freight is breaking records due to the war in the Middle East.
