“Deyna” tanker from Russia’s “shadow fleet” detained by France delivered to Marseille

A ship detained in the Mediterranean Sea on suspicion of using a false flag will be handed over to the Marseille prosecutor’s office.
The Russian tanker Deyna, which France detained with the support of the United Kingdom, arrived at the port of Marseille-Fos for further investigation. This is reported by Le Figaro.
The Mozambican-flagged vessel was placed in the port’s waters on the morning of March 23, where it will be held at the disposal of the Marseille prosecutor.
“It will be anchored and held at the disposal of the Marseille prosecutor as part of a preliminary investigation,” the French maritime prefecture of the Mediterranean said.
For security reasons, no-fly zones have been established around the tanker for flights and shipping.
Recall that the Deyna tanker was detained on March 20 in the Mediterranean. The vessel was heading from Murmansk, Russia, and, according to the French side, may belong to the so-called shadow fleet of the Russian Federation.
The operation was carried out on the basis of Article 110 of the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea – due to suspicion of using a false flag.
This is the second such case since the beginning of the year. In January, France also, with the support of Britain, detained the “Grinch” tanker off the coast of Spain – after confirming violations in the documents of the vessel, which is under EU and UK sanctions.
Also, the day before, USM wrote that a tanker with Russian fuel, which was heading to Cuba, changed course after actions by the United States.
